Otto III, Duke of Carinthia

Otto III. (* 1265, † May 25, 1310 ) from the House of Meinhardiner was Count of Gorizia and Tyrol as Otto III. Duke of Carinthia and Carniola ( 1295-1310 ).

Origin

Otto was the son of Duke Meinhard II and Elisabeth of Bavaria. He succeeded his father after his death in 1295 in his offices, together with his brothers Albert, Louis and Henry.

Rule

Otto took a well-organized country's rule; his father had placed the promotion of ministry officials and the creation of the Tyrolean Raitbücher the basis for an efficient administration. Otto agreed initially with the Bishop of Brixen on the boundary of the territories of Tyrol and of the diocese, which was henceforth fixed at the mouth of Avisio into the Adige, north of Trento. Family

1297 married Otto Duchess Euphemia ( 1281-1347 ), daughter of Duke Henry V of Silesia. With her he had four daughters:

  • Euphemia.
