Otto Ites

Christian Otto Ites ( born February 5, 1918 in the north; † February 2nd, 1982 ibid ) was a German naval officer, most recently, Rear Admiral of the German Navy.

Life

Ites parents were high school teachers Harmannus Ites (1874-1914) and Mathilde Swart (1889-1961), daughter of the farmer Otto Christian Swart, owner of Great Longhouse, Westermarsch. The Lieutenant Rudolf Ites (1918-1944) was his twin brother.

On April 3, 1936 Otto Ites joined with 18 years in the Navy and served after his training on the torpedo boats Kondor and albatross. On 3 October 1938 he was assigned to submarine school, where he completed a U- course. He then watch on U 48 before he took command after a command course on 31 March 1941 U 146. With this he was able to sink a ship. On August 29, 1941, he took over as commander of the much larger U 94 1942 Otto Ites was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. In 1942 U 94 was sunk and he fell into U.S. custody. In the spring of 1946 Ites returned to his homeland.

1956 Ites joined the Bundeswehr in 1958 he was speaker in the Joint Staff of the Navy. In 1960 he presented as commander of the destroyer 2 as the second part of the structure of the Federal Navy acquired from the U.S. destroyer in service and took him until 1962. According promotions to Captain (1964) and to the Commodore (1971 ), he was Admiral Marine training in the Navy Office, whose leadership as department head, he took over in April 1975. In the same year he was promoted to Rear Admiral. In 1977, Ites from this position to retire. He died in 1982 in his hometown north.
