Otto Treßler

Otto Tressler, actually Otto Mayer ( born April 13, 1871 in Stuttgart, † April 27, 1965 in Vienna ) was a German - Austrian actor.

Life

Tressler visited some years the Dillmann -Real Gymnasium in Stuttgart before he worked as a bookseller and merchant. First of amateur actors, he was a professional actor in 1892 and received an engagement at the court theater of Stuttgart and the German National Theatre in Vienna.

From 1896 to 1961 he played at the Burgtheater total of 383 roles. He embodied, among others, Franz Moor in The Robbers, the title characters of Clavigo, Peer Gynt and Hamlet, Mephisto in Faust and FIESCO in the conspiracy Fiesco. In 1915 he became senior director.

From 1914 he also played in various films. He presented the most high-profile figures represent, initially in the main, later only in supporting roles.

Tressler was a friend of the Archduchess Maria Josepha. He was married four times. The first marriage produced three children, his second wife he was married to Eleanor wedge of Bündten ( this couple had children Dieter and George), in 1926 married his third wife with the actress Hilde Wagener, in fourth marriage with Hilde Tressler ( born Toscani ).

He was since 1931 the citizens of the City of Vienna and was awarded the Honorary Ring of the Vienna twice awarded (1937 and 1951). He was one of the first tenants in Vienna's first skyscraper in the Lord alley where he lived until his death in order to have shorter distances to the rehearsals and performances at the Burgtheater.

His son Georg Tressler was a famous director, his granddaughter Melanie Tressler is an actress. He is buried in an honorary grave dedicated site on the Döblinger cemetery in Vienna ( group 25, tomb 16), in addition to his fourth wife Hilde Tressler.
