Otto VIII, Count of Hoya

Otto VIII of Hoya (* 1530, † February 25, 1582 in Hoya ) was the last Count of Hoya Nienburg.

Life

Otto was one of the youngest sons of Jobst II von Hoya and his wife Anna von Gleichen. First, he was a canon in Cologne and Verden. After the death of his older and childless brother Albrecht in 1563, he took with his brother Erich, the government of the county. Otto married in 1568 Agnes of Bentheim and Steinfurt that of Count Johann II of Rietberg widow, who was also the mother of the wife of Otto's brother Erich ( ARMGARD of Rietberg ). After Erich died childless in 1575, Otto ruled the county alone.

Already on November 25, 1582 died childless Otto VIII at the castle Hoya and was buried at St. Martin's Church in Nienburg / Weser, where his tomb is located in today's tower hall of the church. Immediately after the death of Otto the county was taken from the Dukes of Brunswick- Lüneburg in possession.
