Eric V, Count of Hoya

Erich V. von Hoya (* 1535, † March 12, 1575 ) was from 1563 to 1575 Graf von Hoya.

Life and work

Erich was the son of Jobst II von Hoya and his wife Anna von Gleichen. First for Erich spiritual career was provided. He was a canon in Bremen, Cologne and Strasbourg. After his older brother Albert died childless in 1563, Erich ruled the county of Hoya together with his younger brother Otto.

1568 married Erich ARMGARD of Rietberg. His brother Otto married at the same time Armgard mother, Agnes of Rietberg (born von Bentheim - Steinfurt ). At the same time he took for his wife and their still underage sister Walburga the government for the Harlingerland - a legacy of the father of two daughters Graf.

As a conclusion of the Reformation, he issued in 1573 a Lutheran church order for its counties Hoya, Rietberg and Bruchhausen and for the gentlemen Esen, Stedesdorf and Witt mouth ( Harlingerland ).

The marriage remained childless Eric and Armgard. After Eric's death married ARMGARD Count Simon VI. to the lip. The county of Rietberg and the Harlingerland fell Walburga. His brother Otto took over the government until this 1582 also died childless last Count of Hoya.
