Ovidiu Hoban

Ovidiu Hoban Ştefan (born 27 December 1982 in Baia Mare ) is a Romanian football player. The midfielder has since the summer of 2012 at Petrolul Ploieşti in Liga 1 under contract.

Career

In 2004, Hoban returned from Germany, where he had previously played at FK Clausen in the Federation League West, and joined first division club FC Universitatea Craiova. After just one use in the 2004/05 season he moved to the winter break to FC Bihor Oradea in the Divizia B. In the summer of 2005, he signed on to the league rivals Gaz Metan Medias. There he became the master force, and fought with the club in the next few years to move up to the top flight. After the rise in 2008 he remained a league higher integral part of the team and secured there to relegation. Despite a seventh place at the end of the season 2010/11 he reached with Gaz Metan the qualifying rounds for the Europa League. There he turned his team first Kuopio PS and Bundesliga club 1 FSV Mainz 05 from before retiring in the play-offs against Austria Wien.

At the beginning of 2012 left Hoban Medias to league rival Universitatea Cluj. Half a year later he joined Petrolul Ploieşti. With his new club, he closed the 2012/13 season from third place and won the Cup victory in 2013 his first title.

National

Hoban was appointed in June 2013 by coach Victor Piţurcă first time in the circle of the Romanian national team and played on June 4, 2013 in a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago his first cap when he came on for the second half of Nicolae Grigore. On August 14, 2013, stood against Slovakia for the first time in the starting lineup.
