Pacific City is a census -designated place on the Nestucca Bay in Tillamook County, Oregon. North of town is the Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area, on the peninsula south of the city of Bob Straub State Park.

History

In 1845, the cook of an English vessel bought a piece of land on the bay and made a fire that got out of control. Unfavorable winds caused the fire from spreading to the coastal range, where it raged for several weeks and destroyed 6100 km ² of forest. However, the country was not yet settled there by the Europeans, including the local Indiaderstämme had been decimated by malaria epidemic from 1830 to 1841. A Native American tribe, the living from fishing Nestugga had to flee before the flames that were not cleared by heavy rain. 1854 came the first settlers in the area, 1876 was the removal of this Indian tribe, which included only 200 people, at the Siletz River. 1886 a canning factory was founded, the processed salmon from the bay. Other economic branches were then the logging and the dairy industry. 1893 founded Thomas Malaney Ocean Park, which was destroyed by a flood in 1894 and later rebuilt on higher ground terrain again. Many buildings, including the Sea View Hotel, were built in the following years for visitors from the Willamette Valley. 1909 Name in Pacific City was changed due to the confusion with Ocean Park (Washington). 1926, the industrial fishing was shut down due to over-fishing. Until the global economic crisis, tourism was the main source of income of the inhabitants.

Pacific City is located 101 away on a side road, 4.5 km from U.S. Highway. There is also the Domestic Airport Pacific City State Airport, which is operated and maintained by the Oregon Department of Aviation.
