Paibian

The Paibium is a time interval of Earth's history. It is the lowest stratigraphic stage of Furongium series of the Cambrian. The lower limit of Paibiums geochronological lies at about 497 million years, the upper limit at about 494 million years ago. The Paibium precedes the Guzhangium stage of the still unnamed third series of the Cambrian and is followed by Jiangshanium.

Naming and history

The stage is named (global reference point for this stage ) to the small town Paibi near the GSSP. The name was proposed by an international group of geologists to Peng Shanchi.

Definition and GSSP

The level lower limit is defined by the first appearance of trilobites agnostoiden Type Glyptagnostus reticulatus. The border to the next Jiangshanium the first appearance of the trilobite species Agnostotes orientalis and Irvingella angustilimbata. As GSSP a profile ( " Paibi profile" ) in the Huaqiao Formation in Hunan Province, China was determined.
