PAK DA

In the PAK DA program (Russian Перспективный авиационный комплекс дальней авиации, Perspektiwny Awiazionny Kompleks Dalnei Awiazii, German Perspective flight complex of a long- range aircraft ) is a project of the Russian Air Force, which aims to develop a new strategic long-range bomber to the target. The project is under the direction of Tupolev PSC and to replace the Tu- 95MS models, Tu- 22M3 and Tu -160.

The PAK DA program is not to be confused with the PAK -FA program, from which the Sukhoi T-50 emerged.

Development

Initial reports of the PAK DA program occurred in 2008, when it became known that the Russian Air Force has defined tactical and technical requirements for a new generation of strategic bombers. The existence of the PAK DA program was a year later officially confirmed by the then Russian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin. Its made in a television interview remarks were interpreted that the bomber design standpoint was the American B-2 "Spirit" inspired. This representation was later denied and pointed out that the new bomber will be based on the design of the Tu- 160. The Russian Major General Anatoly Zhikharev explained that the new bomber Tu- 95MS both as well as the Tu-160 will replace. Contrary to other pronouncements he does not include the Tu- 22M3.

In summer 2012 it was announced that the PAK -DA project was before the crash. Although the reasons for this were not announced, several officers expressed to the effect that there are fundamental doubts about the necessity of the program. The Chief of the General Staff, General Nikolai Makarov, replied that that the final Designentschiedungen had not yet met and the new bomber is superior to the current American models. On June 9, Dmitry Medvedev confirmed that the PAK DA program will continue as scheduled and not canceled. The completion of the first prototype is planned for 2017.

Of the recent performance relatively little is known: As a combat radius 3500 km is required with a starting weight of 100 to 120 tons. In the published concept art, a twin-engine design can be seen as well as the use of pivoting wings. The latter is unusual in modern fighter planes actually no longer use them because they are maintenance intensive and thus achieved favorable flight characteristics can be achieved with other constructive means, especially swing wings are unfavorable for extensive stealth measures. However, they fit with the statement that the PAK -DA project would be based on the Tu -160. Furthermore, it can be assumed that engines and avionics, the Sukhoi T-50 can be used to save development costs.

In March 2013 it was announced that the Russian Air Force favors a subsonic fast Nurflüglerkonzept.
