Development

The ANT -22 was a development of the ANT -11 flying boat project in AGOS, a development group for medium and heavy all-metal aircraft headed Andrei Tupolews, which was a subdivision of the TsAGI in the 1930s. The aircraft had a striking feature two keeled boat hulls, which gave him even in rough seas in a great stability on the water. The cockpit was located between the hulls in the wing, which had four bars and a Wellblechbeplankung. On it were located on three high steel tube frame, the six pairs mounted in tandem M- 34R engines, which were so relatively safe from water splashes. The tail was just like all other components made of metal and had a continuous horizontal stabilizer. The ANT -22 was equipped with six weapons stalls, one of which was located one in each hull in the bow on the back over the rear wing connection to the fuselage and tail.

In July 1934, the construction of the prototype was completed. The first flight with the pilots TW Rjibenko and D. Ilyinski took place on 8 August 1934, it was decided to put the ANT -22 under the military designation MK- 1 (" Морской крейсер " Morskoi Kreiser = Navy cruiser ) in service. This plan was subsequently abandoned, although the machine could erfliegen two Gewichts-/Höhenweltrekorde, as happened on December 8, 1936, when Rjibenko 10,000 kg payload, and later transported 13,000 kg to 1,942 meters altitude.
