Panauti

Development region

Panauti is a city in the south of Banepa Nepal in the district Kabhrepalanchok, a short distance outside the Kathmandu Valley. It has 27 604 inhabitants ( 2011). The district lies in the development Region.

Residents are to a large extent Newari, which located in the city image strongly reflects: multi-level pagoda temple, carved wooden windows and doors as well as the general structure of medieval town with its narrow streets.

Panauti is definitely worth for enthusiasts of Newari culture a visit, just because there was little uncontrolled construction of modern buildings in the still. The main attraction is the Mahadev Mandir Indreshwar (temple).

A visit can be designed from Kathmandu as a day trip, the bus ride takes about one and a half hours from the old bus station ( Ratna Park ).
