Paragliding World Cup

The Paragliding World Cup ( PWC or shortly called ) is a competition for paragliding pilots in the discipline of cross-country flying, which is organized by the PWCA. Each year makes the Paragliding World Cup Tour at 5-6 places hold. This normally several tasks are flown on each occasion, which are then combined into an overall ranking.

The goal of each competition is moving within a predetermined route with a starting buoy, some turning points (usually 4-6 ) and a finish line. If none of the participants reached the goal, the winner of the task is determined by measuring the distance traveled.

The monitoring and documentation of flights is via the track log of the entrained GPS receiver.

The twelfth FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale ) World Paragliding Championships were ended prematurely after a fatal accident in Piedrahita, Spain, the pilots Francisco " Tato " Vargas and Eitel of Muhle Brock. In addition, four pilots could only save with the reserve parachute, three injured slightly. Then, the FAI Commission Internationale de Vol Libre CIVL has paragliders Category Competition Class suspended from the competition in order to develop solutions for improved safety.
