Description

Vegetative characteristics

Of the six Parapholis species are five -year and a perennial herbaceous plant. They grow in clumps or with a single stalk. The culms are erect or decumbent. The leaves are divided into leaf sheath and blade. The leaf sheaths are ribbed, the ligule ( ligule ) is a membranous hem. The narrow lineal to linear lanceolate leaf blades are rolled short and shallow or dry.

Generative features

The inflorescence is a stalk round, straight or sickle-shaped curved ear of wheat, which disintegrates at maturity. The spikelets are alternate on two sides of the ears axis, lie on this side, and are recessed in the cavity. The ear is nearly as thin as the blade of grass in total. The spikelets are flowered with a hermaphrodite flower. The axis of extension above the florets is short for fruit ripening drops the spikelet as a whole.

The two glumes are nearly equal, three - to five annoying, keeled and standing sideways in front of the florets. The lemma is three annoying. There are three stamens present. The ovary is bald. The style ends in a feathery stigma.

The caryopsis is free and not fused with the husks.

Dissemination

The genus Parapholis is widespread in Central Asia and Southeast Asia, the Mediterranean, northward along the Atlantic coast of Europe to the Baltic Sea. In Europe, only one type, the Curved thin tail, native.

The genus Parapholis 1946 was established by Charles Edward Hubbard in Blumea, Supplement 3, p 14. Synonyms for Parapholis C.E.Hubb. are Lepidurus Janch. and lepturus R.Br.. Parapholis The genus belongs to the subtribe Parapholiinae from the tribe in the subfamily Pooideae Poeae within the family Poaceae.
