Parliament Hill (London)

Parliament Hill is a hill in the southeastern part of the park Hampstead Heath in North West London.

The eastern section ( Highgate ) is commonly called " Parliament Hill Fields". The girls' school of the area, Parliament Hill School, was named after her. Formerly known as " Traitors' Hill ," she got the current name during the English Civil War, when it was occupied by the Parliament troops. The hill ( 98m: lower than the majority of Hampstead Heath ) is not, as the name might suggest, the site of the Parliament building. This is located 6 km south in Westminster, but there is a good view there.

Around the hill there is a public park, which can be driven on specially designated cycle paths. The hill itself is often used for kite flying because of the favorable and relatively strong winds. It provides in clear weather a view over a large part of London ( Canary Wharf, London Eye, Houses of Parliament ) and is therefore popular with tourists. By public transport, the park of the metro stations Hampstead (1.5 miles west) or Tufnell is (1.5 km east) to reach the park on foot, but the Gospel Oak railway station is closer.
