Pascal Salin

Pascal Salin ( born May 16, 1939 in Paris ) is a French economist of the Vienna School and former Professor at the University Paris - Dauphine. He is a former president of the Mont Pelerin Society 1994-1996). He is also adjunct scholar at the Ludwig von Mises Institute in Auburn ( Alabama). The focus of his research are public finance and monetary theory. He is one of the most famous French representatives of the Austrian School.

Life

Salin was born on 16 May 1939 in Paris. He studied at the Law Faculty of the University of Bordeaux. He then pursued economic studies at the Institut d' études politiques de Paris. After graduating, he received his doctorate and completed a degree in sociology with the license.

His academic career began as an assistant in Paris from 1961 until 1966. 1967 he was maître de conférences. At the Universities of Poitiers and Nantes In 1970 he became a professor at the University of Paris -Dauphine, where he taught until 2007. He heads the Centre de Recherche en Théorie Economique Jean- Baptiste Say

Among his students Guillaumat François, Bertrand Lemennicier and Cécile Philippe.

He worked as a consultant for the International Monetary Fund, the Government of Niger, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN ( FAO) and the Harvard Institute for International Development.

Between 1994 and 1996 he was president of the Mont Pelerin Society. He sits on the academic advisory board of the Liberal Institute in Zurich.

Teaching

The focus of his work lies in the areas of fiscal policy and monetary policy. It arises in particular against narrow banking and defended free banking.

His works are in addition to the French liberals mainly influenced by the Austrian school: Frédéric Bastiat, Ludwig von Mises and Friedrich Hayek. He represents minarchistische and anarcho -capitalist positions, which he founded in natural law perspective. Utilitarianism he strictly refuses.

He publishes regularly in Le Québécois Libre. His main works are La Verité sur la monnaie (1990 ), Macro - économie (1991 ), L' arbitraire fiscal (1996 ), Libéralisme (2000) and French, pas peur du n'ayez libéralisme! (2007).

In European politics, he is responsible for the Bolkestein Directive. The EU Constitution of 2004, he refuses.
