Passion: Music for The Last Temptation of Christ
Passion: Music for The Last Temptation of Christ is a film soundtrack by Peter Gabriel, which was published in 1989. It is his second soundtrack and eighth album overall be. It was originally composed for the film The Last Temptation of Christ (1988 ) by Martin Scorsese. Peter Gabriel The music developed even further after the premiere of the film, and gave out a full album instead of a Fimsoundtracks. The album is a milestone in the popularity of world music and has won a Grammy Award in 1990 for Best New Age Album. It has been reissued to the original recording as remastered 2002.
Album
For the soundtrack of the film Peter Gabriel made use of the resources of the organization WOMAD, which he had founded to bring together musicians from the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. He worked with them to enhance the mood of the film, but also added a modern ambiance music editing, which he has influenced many contemporary musicians. The album made known musicians such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Youssou N'Dour, L. Shankar, and Baaba Maal.
A little later, an additional album in 1989 under the name of Passion - Sources issued that includes more songs in which Peter Gabriel does not play along. He describes this album as a selection of traditional music, sources of inspiration and on-site recordings.
The cover was designed with the collage Drawing study for Self Image II ( 1987) by Julian Grater by 1987.
Tracks
All the pieces were composed by Peter Gabriel, with the exception of " Open", which is based on an improvisation by L. Shankar and Peter Gabriel, and " Stigmata", which is based on an improvisation by Mahmoud Tabrizi Zadeh and Peter Gabriel. " Zaar " was written based on a traditional Egyptian rhythm which is listed to drive away evil spirits.
