Pattali Makkal Katchi

The Makkal Katchi Pattali ( PMK ) (Tamil: பாட்டாளி மக்கள் கட்சி [ pɑ ː ʈ ː ɑ ː ː əɭ ɭi mak kaʈʂi ] "Workers People's Party ") is a regional party in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It was founded in 1989 by S. Ramadoss. Party president is G. K. Mani.

Orientation

The PMK is a box- based party: it has its followers among the Vanniyar, a strong presence in the north Tamil Nadu community, which is counted in the traditional caste hierarchy to the lower castes and only slightly above the Dalits ( untouchables ) is. The PMK has been able to use the embossed box of loyalty voting behavior and the Vanniyar votes to bundle quite successful. The party is committed to the interests of the Vanniyar and is committed to quota rules in their favor. In 2002, the PMK even demanded to divide the state of Tamil Nadu and to form from the Vanniyar - dominated northern part of its own state. The PMK policy is again and again against Dalits. So PMK politicians have repeatedly spoken out against box- cross- marriages between Dalits and Vanniyar. In April / May 2013, came in the context of a PMK - party meeting in Mamallapuram serious riots between PMK and Dalit activists.

The party symbol of the PMK is a mango, the party colors are blue, yellow and red.
