Paul Baghdadlian

Paul baghdadlian (birth name Krikor, Armenian Փօլ Պաղտատլեան, Arabic بول بغدادليان; * July 10, 1953 in Aleppo, † June 28, 2011 in Glendale, California ) was a Syrian rebetiko singer, songwriter, entertainer and entrepreneur. He is often regarded as the king of love songs and is popular throughout the Armenian diaspora.

Early life

Baghdadlian was born the son of Armenian parents Baruyr baghdadlian and Arousiag baghdadlian. He had a brother named Aram baghdadlian and had, after he had moved in the Lebanese capital Beirut, great success as a singer of modern Armenian music. In 1965, when he was 12 years old, his mother died (his father later remarried and moved to Pasadena ). In order to secure his livelihood, he started on the wild streets of Lebanon for others to sing.

Career

In the early 1970s, was known as Paul baghdadlian Paul, the Prince. Once, however, he heard the music of his compatriot Pamboukjian Harout, Paul baghdadlian began to sing on westarmenisch, mostly love songs. After he had great success in this new phase of career, in 1977 he moved to Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, he produced hundreds of recordings, mostly ballads, which he mostly sang in Armenian, though he mainly but also sang in a number of other languages ​​, in Arabic. He toured the main centers of the Armenian diaspora and Armenia.

Death

On June 28, 2011 Paul baghdadlian died in Glendale Adventist Medical Center after a long battle with lung cancer. The cause of his death was respiratory failure called because of the cancer. He left behind two women: his first wife Ani baghdadlian, with whom he had two children, Paul Jr. and Christopher baghdadlian baghdadlian and his second wife Dzaghig baghdadlian - with whom he had a daughter, Verginie baghdadlian.
