Paul Biya

Paul Biya ( born February 13, 1933 Mvomeka'a as Paul Barthélemy Biya'a bi Mvondo ) is since 1982 the second President of Cameroon. It comes from the Bulu - people.

Life

Biya studied International Relations at the Institut d' études politiques de Paris and graduated in 1961 with a degree from there. He served under President Ahmadou Ahidjo and became Prime Minister in 1975. As Ahidjo resigned from the office of President on November 6, 1982, Biya was appointed on the same day as his successor. Because among others Biya Ahidjo criticizing it for having guided a coup to come back to power, went into exile in 1983 this.

After Cameroon was ruled by only one party a long time, a multi-party system was introduced in the 90s under Paul Biya. Paul Biya has been president of the ruling party RDPC ( Rassemblement du Peuple Democratique Camerounais ).

Paul Biya has been criticized by some for its strict management style and especially for the alienation from the people. Strongly Disagree met him on the part of English-speaking Cameroonians. These accuse him not to pay enough attention to their problems and feel of the political and governmental events excluded. Many of his opponents come from the English-speaking West - Cameroon. You mean, the country was governed only by the ethnicity of the president. In fact, all high government positions are occupied by French-speaking politicians.

In the presidential elections on 11 October 2004 was elected with 70.9 percent of the vote for another seven years, which, however, the opposition saw as large-scale fraud. Nevertheless, he was sworn in on 3 November 2004 for a further term. The last elections were held on 9 October 2011. Paul Biya, now aged 78, came in again and was re-elected with 77 percent of the vote.

Family

Paul Biya is married to Chantal Biya ( born Vigouroux ). They have two children together, Junior and Brenda Biya Biya. He is adoptive father of the two children of his wife, Chantal, probably from an earlier Liaision. Frank Biya 's his first son from his first marriage to Jeanne- Irène Biya who died in 1992.
