Paul Cuvelier

Paul Cuvelier ( born November 22, 1923 in Lens; † August 5, 1978 in Mont- sur -Marchienne ) was a Belgian comic book artist.

Career

Cuvelier, who published his first drawing in the magazine Le Petit Vingtième at the age of seven years, the Academy of Art visited in Mons, before he was made ​​aware of the medium of comics by Hergé. The first drawn by him comic was entitled Le Canyon Mystérieux and was texted by Hergé and Edgar P. Jacobs, who published under the Gemeinschaftspseudonym " Olav ". Cuvelier was among the founders of the magazine Tintin, for which he the gambling in India comic series Corentin contributed from its first issue ( with texts by Jacques van Melkebeke ). Other authors with whom Cuvelier worked at Corentin, were, among others, Greg, Jacques Acar and Jean Van Hamme.

Between 1950 and 1958, Cuvelier, who had made ​​1947 Promotional drawings for the chocolate brand Côte d'Or, the painting and sculpture turned on and published no comics. This was followed by more stories of Corentin with a now mature title character. More Comics emerged in the 1960s, including flame d' Argent, Wapi and the adult comic epoxy. After a long illness, which also affected his professional activities, Cuvelier died in 1978.

Andreas C. Knigge counts Cuvelier to the " groundbreaking pioneers and great masters of the Belgian comic strip ".
