Paul Gallagher (bishop)

Paul Richard Gallagher ( born January 23, 1954 in Liverpool, United Kingdom) is a Roman Catholic Archbishop and Vatican Diplomat.

Life

Paul Gallagher visited the St. Francis Xavier 's College in Woolton. He was then sent to Rome at the Venerable English College. Gallagher received on 31 July 1977 in Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral by Archbishop Derek Worlock of Liverpool to the sacrament of Holy Orders. Paul Gallagher worked as an assistant priest at Holy Name Parish in Fazakerley and as chaplain at Fazakerley Hospital.

Later, Gallagher was sent to Rome at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy. In 1984 he received his doctorate in Canon Law. On May 1, 1984 Paul Gallagher joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See and Addetto was at the Apostolic Nunciature in Tanzania. He then worked in the Apostolic Nunciature in Uruguay and the Philippines as well as in the Vatican Secretariat of State. On 15 July 2000, Pope John Paul II appointed as Permanent Observer at the Euro Europe in Strasbourg.

January 22, 2004, Pope John Paul II appointed Titular Archbishop of Hodelm and appointed him as Apostolic Nuncio in Burundi. He received his episcopal consecration on 13 March 2004 Secretary of State Cardinal Angelo Sodano in St. Peter's Basilica; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Liverpool, Patrick Altham Kelly, and the secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Archbishop Robert Sarah Curia. On 19 February 2009 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. Apostolic Nuncio to Guatemala. Paul Gallagher was born on December 11, 2012 Apostolic Nuncio in Australia.
