Paul Henry Konerko ( born March 5, 1976) is an American professional baseball player. Since 1999 he plays for the Chicago White Sox on the position of the first baseman. Before Konerko played with the Los Angeles Dodgers ( 1997-98 ) and Cincinnati Reds (1998). Konerko was part of the team of the Chicago White Sox won the World Series in 2005. Since 2006 he has been the team captain of the Chicago White Sox.

Biography

Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds

Konerko played from 1997 for the Albuquerque Dukes, a minor league team the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the years 1997 and 1998 had a few appearances in the MLB for the Los Angeles Dodgers. His first game in the MLB he had on 8 September 1997.

1998 Konerko was sold to the Cincinnati Reds, where he was used 26 times.

Chicago White Sox

On 11 November 1998 he moved to the Chicago White Sox.

In 2000, Paul Konerko played his first post-season for the White Sox. However, the AL Division Series loss to Chicago in three games against the Seattle Mariners.

2005 Konerko was chosen as the MVP of the AL Championship Series, which won the White Sox with four wins and only one defeat against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In the 7th inning of the second game of the subsequent World Series 2005 Konerko hit a grand slam home run to lead the White Sox 6-4. The first Grand Slam of the White Sox in a World Series game and the 18th in the history of MLB ever.

After winning the World Series in 2005 Konerko signed a five -year contract with the Chicago White Sox, despite having received more lucrative offers from the Los Angeles Angels and the Baltimore Orioles.

On 18 September 2008 he hit the last home run of an opposing team in the old Yankee Stadium in New York before it was demolished.

On 13 April 2009 at the third inning of the game the White Sox against the Detroit Tigers beat until Jermaine Dye and as the next hitter Paul Konerko each their 300th homerun. It was the first time in the history of MLB that two players lined up a milestone home run record in a game.

His 400th home run hit Konerko on 25 April 2012 at the game against the Oakland Athletics.

In July 2012, he was selected with three other players of the Chicago White Sox (Adam Dunn, Jake Peavy and Chris Sale ) in the selection of the American League to the 83rd All Star Game. This was his sixth nomination in the All Star team from the American League and after 2010 and 2011, his third nomination in a row.
