Paul Nihill

Vincent Paul Nihill ( born September 5, 1939 in Colchester ) is a former British athlete. At a height of 1.80 m his competition weight was 66 kg.

Paul Nihill was in the 1960s and early 1970s, the most successful English -goers.

Career

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 Nihill won the silver medal in the 50 km walk in 4:11:31,2 hours behind the Italians Abdon Pamich in 4:11:12,4 hours. Four years later, at the 1968 Olympic Games, he gave up the race over the same distance in the high altitude of Mexico City.

In Athens at the European Championships in 1969 Nihill took over after the first half of the race in the 20 km Walk the tip and ultimately won in 1:30:48,0 hours before the Romanians Leonida Caraiosifoglu in 1:31:06,4 hours and Nikolai Smaga from the Soviet Union. 1971 at the European Championships in Helsinki won Smaga in 1:27:20,2 hours ago Gerhard Sperling from the GDR to 1:27:29,0 hours, Paul Nihill won bronze 1:27:34,8 hours.

At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 Nihill occurred on both walkers distances. On 31 August he was over 20 km of sixth in 1:28:44,4 hours, on 3 September, he took over 50 km to 4:14:09,4 hours ninth.

1976 in Montreal started Nihill at his fourth Olympics and finished about 20 km 1:36:40,4 hours number 30

Paul Nihill won 1963-1975 a total of 27 titles at the British Championships. In 1968 he succeeded on four road distances (20 km, 50 km, 10 miles and 20 miles) to become champion.

From December 1967 up to the task in Mexico City, he won 35 consecutive competitions. He then won another 51 races to June 1970. Overall, he won 1960-1977 355 competitions.
