Paul Sollier

Sollier Paul ( born August 31, 1861 in Bléré, Indre -et -Loire, † June 8, 1933 in Paris) was a French neurologist and psychologist. He worked to neurological syndromes, to hysteria, to recap, about emotions and idiocy. While his scientific work have been forgotten for the most part, he is known today primarily as attending physician of the writer Marcel Proust ( 1871-1922 ).

Life

Sollier studied medicine at Désiré - Magloire Bourneville at Bicêtre and Jean -Martin Charcot at the Salpêtrière. He was next to Joseph Babinski as Charcot's most gifted students. 1890 received his doctorate with a thesis on Sollier psychology of mental retardation ( " psychology de l' idiot et de l' imbéciler "; German 1891: " The Idiot and the imbeciles "). In 1897 he was appointed to the sanatorium of Boulogne -Billancourt. A year later he began to hold regular lectures at the " Université Nouvelle " in Brussels. In the First World War, 1914-1917, he led a military center for neurology in Lyon.

Marcel Proust went on 6 December 1905 recommendation of his doctor Édouard Brissaud for six weeks to treat his " neurasthenia " to Boulogne -Billancourt. Sollier therapied him there with isolation and " involuntary memories ". On the subject of "memory" Sollier had already published in 1892 " Les Troubles de la Mémoire " and 1900 " Le Problème de la Mémoire ". Especially in the latter work he analyzed in detail the phenomenon of " involuntary memories ", which he developed into a therapeutic approach. While Proust little while later reported anything good about his therapy, the influence Solliers on Proust's novel been emphasized "In Search of Lost Time " in recent times.
