Paulo Assunção da Silva ( born January 25, 1980 in Várzea Grande ) is a Brazilian footballer. In addition to the Brazilian nationality he possesses the Portuguese.

Club career

Paulo Assunção moved in January 2001 from Brazilian club Palmeiras tradition São Paulo to the Portuguese giants FC Porto. At Porto he played in the episode as a regular in the second team, but then went back to his original club after Brazil. Another year later, the midfielder returned to Portugal and Clube Desportivo Nacional hired at, where he completed 50 league games in two years. His debut in the first division he celebrated on 26 January 2003 in the Game against Vitória Guimarães. In 2004, Assunção again to FC Porto, but was awarded shortly after the change for a year at the elfmaligen Greek champions AEK Athens. In the years 2006, 2007 and 2008, he was with Porto champions and also 2006 Cup Winners' Cup and Super Cup winner. According to a clause in his contract his former club CD Nacional and FC Porto had 50 percent of the transfer rights to the midfielder.

Assunção was one of the first players who then called the Webster ruling and § 17 of the FIFA regulations left their club. With his move to Atlético Madrid in July 2008, he still had to pay the outstanding salary of 600,000 euros and for the Spaniard fell to no transfer fee. With Madrid, the Brazilian reached the biggest success of his career, winning in 2010 and 2012, the UEFA Europa League. After the second title in July 2012, he moved back to his home to Sao Paulo. There he played until the end of the year and won the Copa Sudamericana with the club.

Since January 2013, the midfielder plays for Spanish Erstligaaufsteiger Deportivo La Coruna.
