Paweł Blehm

Paweł Blehm ( born April 17, 1980 in Olkusz ) is a Polish chess player and teacher. He became an International Master in 1996, and since 2001 he has the title Grandmaster.

Life

Since 2002, Blehm lives in Baltimore, where he studied at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County Financial economics. Together with the Polish grandmaster Marcin Kaminski, he leads the online chess school chessaid.

Achievements

In the U14 World Cup in 1994 in Szeged, he finished second behind Alik Gershon. In 1995, he won a tournament in Międzyzdroje. In 1997 he occupied at the Polish flash Individual Championship in Poznan Włodzimierz behind Schmidt in second place. 1998/99 he won a tournament in Hallberg. In 2000, he played for the Polish national team at the Chess Olympiad. He won a tournament in Legnica and the zone tournament in Budapest in the same year. In 2001 he won the Ken Smith Memorial in Dallas.

Chess club he played in Poland for Polonia Warsaw. With Polonia Polish team he won the Championship in 2000 and 2001 in Zakopane in Glogów. He also played in the Czech Extraliga and the U.S. Chess League ( for the Baltimore Kingfishers ). His current Elo rating is 2505 (as of April 2009), however, he is listed as inactive because he has not played a game more -evaluated since a tournament in March 2007 in Fort Worth. He had his highest ever Elo rating of 2547 in April 2002.
