Career

During the presidency of Jorge Batlle Ibáñez Bordaberry was Minister of Industry and Tourism.

He was a candidate for mayor ( Intendente ) in Montevideo. In elections in May 2005, he was able to share his party, the Partido Colorado, triple from earlier 8.4% to 25%. The Partido Colorado lost for 34 years previously votes, especially to the Frente Amplio, a coalition of European style socialists, Christian Democrats and Libertarians to Communists.

2009 presidential elections

As a candidate for the presidency of Colorado in 2009, he was at least a relatively better performance credited as Guillermo Stirling in 2004 ( almost 11 % after 32.8 % in 1999 ). In fact, the Partido Colorado reached a historical state and ruling party in Uruguay, with around 17% a respectable third place, and so, analysts believe the government of the Frente Amplio after 5 years could be at the end, as the Partido Colorado votes in a runoff second tradition party, the Nationalists, could be attributed.

Bordaberrys Father Juan María Bordaberry was 1972-1976 president and dictator of Uruguay.
