Pedro Guerra

Pedro Manuel Guerra Mansito ( born June 2, 1966 in Guimar, Tenerife ) is a Spanish singer-songwriter from the Canary Islands. His style is characterized by Canarian folklore as well as modern music, Latin American and North African music.

Biography

Pedro Guerra is the son of Pedro Guerra Cabrera, the first president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands. He studied guitar at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Tenerife. At age 16, he started performing at various festivals on the island. At age 18, he moved to the university city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, where he met the singer-songwriter Andrés Molina, Rogelio Botanz and Marisa Delgado, with whom he formed in 1985 Taller Canario de Canción. Marisa left the group the following year.

In 1993 he moved to Madrid and began his solo career. As a musician and composer he has worked with, among others, Ana Belén, Víctor Manuel, Joaquín Sabina, Javier Álvarez, Paloma San Basilio, Amistades Peligrosas and the group Cómplices. In 1995 he issued his first solo album Golosinas.

For his album Mararía (1998) he was nominated by the Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas de España and won Mejor Banda Sonora de Obra as Cinematográfica de los Premios de la Música, which annually by Sociedad General de Autores y Editores ( SGAE ) and the Sociedad de Artistas, Intérpretes o Ejecutantes (AIE ) is excellent.

In the elections to the European Parliament in 2005, he supported the campaign of Izquierda Unida.
