Pedro Opaso

Pedro Opazo Letelier ( born July 20, 1876 in Talca, † April 9, 1957 in Santiago de Chile) was a Chilean politician. From 26 to 27 June 1931, he officiated for a day as president of his country.

Opazo studied medicine at the Universidad de Chile. He belonged to the Liberal Democratic Party. In 1920 he was appointed by the outgoing president Juan Luis Sanfuentes for half a year for war and infrastructure minister. From 1921 he represented the district Talca only in the House of Representatives, from 1924 then in the Senate.

In 1930 he was elected president of the Senate. In this role, he slipped after the resignation of President Carlos Ibáñez del Campo and his entire cabinet under the Constitution on July 26, 1931 as a sitting vice president to the head of state of Chile. Opazo used this day to appoint a new cabinet, as the Interior Minister Juan Esteban Montero he chose, he transferred the office of Vice - President immediately. Overall Opazos took office as head of state, less than 24 hours.

With the handover of the presidency to Montero Opazo again worked as a Senator; in the elections of 1932 he was re-elected and remained until May 23, 1944 Office of the President of the Senate.
