Pedro Vaz (diplomat)

Pedro Humberto Vaz Ramela ( born December 2, 1963 in Rocha, Uruguay, † December 6, 2012 in Santiago, Chile ) was a diplomat and politician from Uruguay.

Biography

After school he studied law and social sciences at the Universidad de la República and finished both courses with the doctorate. After graduation, he was from 1987 to 1989 as an attorney and at the same time from 1988 to 1989 as a lecturer in the French language in secondary schools.

In 1989, he appears as a contender in the diplomatic service and is employed after the course in 1990 as Third Secretary in the Foreign Service. After working as a secretary in the regional office for Eastern Europe and the Directorate of Constitutional and International agreements it is first Secretary and then Counsellor at the Embassy in Mexico. This is followed by his appointment to the council at the Permanent Mission to the International Organizations in Geneva. In this role, he was responsible for business and commerce.

After his return to Uruguay, he is first director for bilateral economic relationship and Deputy Director General for the connection of Foreign and International Economic Relations. On 13 May 2005 his appeal was ambassador to Brazil. From March 2008 to August 2009 he was Under Secretary of State ( Deputy Minister ) of Foreign Minister Gonzalo Fernández.

President Tabaré Vázquez finally appointed him on 31 August 2009 after the resignation of Gonzalo Fernández as Minister of Foreign Affairs. He held from 1 September 2009 to 28 February 2010 this office. Pedro Vaz was a member of the Partido Socialista del Uruguay, which is part of the governing coalition Frente Amplio.

In 2010, he was appointed by President José Mujica for his country's ambassador in Chile. There, died after a heart attack at his home in Santiago de Chile
