Socialist Party of Uruguay

The Partido Socialista del Uruguay (abbreviation PSU, German Socialist Party of Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan Party, which was founded in 1910.

Today the party is part of the ruling Frente Amplio coalition.

Members

Dr. Emilio Frugoni was for years the major leaders of the Party and its spokesperson. He was one of the most prominent representatives of socialism in Uruguay and also the first deputy of the party who entered into the House of Representatives. As the first woman in the history of the Party Daisy Tourné could win a mandate for the PSU. Mónica Xavier was such an honor as the first female senator of the PSU. The best-known member of the party is the former President Tabaré Vázquez.

2001 to 2013 the party was headed by former Uruguayan Foreign Minister Reinaldo Gargano. Eduardo " Lalo " Fernandez was since August 2006 Secretary General of the party. In December 2011 was determined at the 47th Congress of the Party since 2010 seated for the department of Cerro Largo in the Cámara de Representantes MPs Yeru Pardiñas his successor.
