Pedubast I

Petubastis I ( also Padibastet I. ) was a pharaoh (king) in Ancient Egypt. His reign is to be set to 834/831 bis 809/806 BC. He is the founder of the dynasty, 23, who has ruled parallel to the 22nd Dynasty in Leontopolis.

Rule

In Thebes, the 23rd dynasty displaced the 22nd Dynasty. On the Nilstandsmarke 24 is noted that the fifth year of the reign Petubastis I. the 12th year of the reign Sheshonk III. and thus corresponds to the first year of the reign Petubastis I. in the 8th year of the reign Sheshonk III. falls, which is about 841/838 BC took the throne.

Petubastis I sat in his 23th year as the successor of Harsiese II as the new High Priest of Amun Takelot E a, officiated IV even in the sixth year of the reign of Sheshonk. Jürgen von Beckerath sees him as a possible successor of Petubastis I.

Datings of Amun - resistant

7th year of the reign

Petubastis I granted in his seventh year of the reign during the Amun -Re - Fixed a son named Padiamun according to the priest Annals of Karnak high priesthood in Thebes. To this end, the following entry is recorded: date of introduction of his son, the God Father of Amun ( hrw pn -n- bz - s3.f - jt.nṯr -n- Jmn ).

8th year of reign

In the 8th year of the reign Petubatis I. celebrations are about the setting up of Pentiefanch as High Priest of Amun Amun-Re occupied during the festival:

"Year 8 Petubastis I., Day 19 in the first month of the season Schemu: day of the introduction of the first prophet of Amun "

In addition, the high priest Harsiese II inaugurated at the same time a new shrine to Amun. Because of Amun -Re - feast, which always began on the new moon and lasted five days, there are several ways of dating, there is not clear from the inscription on which day of Amun -Re - resistant Petubastis I performed the priest appointment. Certain is that Petubastis I. while the priest appointment already celebrated the Amun -Re - hard. From sources other years it is known that a priest appointments were also made on the third or fourth day of Amun -Re - feast.

As a chronological approach, therefore, come all Amun -Re festivals in question, which include the 19 Schemu as a feast day. In addition, the eve of Amun -Re - feast may also be eligible for a Wesirernennung as a possibility because of the new moon and thus the first Mondmonatstag was greeted solemnly to Amun -Re - hard during the night as a prelude. Insofar as the official festival beginning fell on the twelfth hour of the night of the 18th Schemu that ushered in the beginning of Amun -Re - feast in the first hour of the day of 19 Schemu.

Rolf Krauss decided to use the approach that it constitutes the first day of Amun -Re - feast at the 19th Schemu I. Due to his hypothesis, he dated the 8th year of the reign of Petubastis I. 816 BC The proposals by Aidan Dodson and Jürgen von Beckerath other hand, include the version that the 19 Schemu not represents the first day of Amun -Re - feast. Basically, however, those proposals may be excluded which do not consider the Amun -Re - hard and the associated potential for years.
