Pen y Fan

The Pen y Fan (pronounced pɛnə'van ) with a height of 886 m, the largest collection in South Wales.

The mountain is part of the Brecon Beacons in Brecon Beacons National Park and is made of old red sandstone from the Devonian with strong traces of the last ice age.

In addition to British special forces who train on the mountain, the site is regularly used by hikers and participants of the annual Pen-y- fan - run. The National Trust seeks to halt the progressive erosion of the site.

Tommy Jones Obelisk

On the way to the summit stands an obelisk commemorating the five -year-old Tommy Jones, who came in August 1900 killed here. Tommy Jones, son of a miner in the Rhondda, got lost in Cwm Llwch Farmhouse as he was returning home from a visit with his grandparents.

The point at which his body was found after a 29-day search, was marked by this obelisk since hikers serves as a guide.

The inscription on the obelisk reads:

"This obelisk marks the spot where the body of Tommy Jones, aged 5, was found. He lost his way in between Cwm Llwch farm and the Login on the night of August 4, 1900. After an anxious search of 29 days his remains were Discovered on September 1 Erected by voluntary subscription. W. Powell Price Mayor of Brecon 1901 "
