Penelope Lively

Penelope Lively, DBE ( born March 17, 1933, Cairo ) is a British writer. She writes novels and children's books since 1970 and in 1987 received for her novel Moon Tiger the Booker Prize.

Life

Lively was born in 1933 as the daughter of British parents in Egypt and spent much of her childhood until she was sent with twelve years to a boarding school in England. Then studied history at St. Anne's College, Oxford. In 1957 she married Jack Lively, later professor of politics at the University of Warwick, with whom she has two children. Jack Lively died 1998.

In 1970, she published her first children's book, 1977 The Road to Lichfield her first novel. Since then she has published nearly 30 children's books, 14 novels, a series of short stories and autobiographical. They also wrote lyrics for film and television and worked as a radio presenter.

Penelope Lively Officer in 1989 and 2001 Commander of the Order of the British Empire, 2012, she was appointed as part of the 2012 New Year Honours for Dame Commander DBE. She is an honorary doctorates from the universities Tufts (Massachusetts ) and Warwick and lives in London.

Penelope Lively's central theme in almost all of her books is the handling of contemporary culture and society with the story of the rich diversity and the consequences of different historical perspectives, such as in their most important novel Moon Tiger, in which she a love story during the Second World War from different perspectives told.
