Pennies from Heaven (1936 film)

Pennies from Heaven is an American comedy film from 1936, based on the novel The Peacock Feather by Katherine Leslie Moore.

Action

Shortly before his execution are the criminals hard his friend Larry Poole cells a message to pass this to the Smith family in New Jersey. Larry is released from prison and earned a little money by singing in backyards with the young Patsy Smith. He meets the social worker Susan Sprague know that Patsy wants to bring in an orphanage. Patsy makes Larry known with her grandfather Gramp Smith, to whom he passes the message Harts at a dinner. As compensation for the murder of Patsy's father, Hart has the message attached to a key that is intended for a hiding place.

Mr. Carmichael from welfare committee appointed Susan, Patsy accommodate in an orphanage, as her grandfather, the girl can not supply enough. Larry, who has found the hiding place as an abandoned house, had the idea to make the house a café. On the evening of the opening, however, is Harry, the band leader of the orchestra, was arrested by the sheriff for chicken theft. In order to pay the operator's license for the cafe, Larry hired at the fair as an art pilot. But at a performance he crashes and comes to the hospital. Gramp notified him that Patsy was placed in an orphanage and that Larry can not see. Susan hears of this edition and announces their service in welfare. She befriends with Patsy.

Larry manages to give a performance at the orphanage. He wants to get Patsy from the home, but Patsy does not want to go with him because of her friendship with Susan. Larry studied in New York to Susan and is arrested. Patsy occurs on a hunger strike and can convince the management of the orphanage from the fact that she was a constant source of unrest for the home. Larry and Susan, now married, adopt.

Frank S. Nugent of the New York Times described the film as a healthy, slightly sentimental and amiable comedy.
