The Pentersrück between Schnellrode in the Schwalm - Eder district and Günsterode in neighboring Werra- Meißner-Kreis in North Hessen is with 562.2 meters above sea level. NN after Himmelberg ( 563.7 m) the second highest peak of Günsteröder height, the highest and most influential ridge of the mountain Melsunger country.

Geography

Location

The Pentersrück lies in the Schwalm -Eder -Kreis ( west) and in the Werra- Meißner -Kreis ( East) in the center of gravity of the wooded Günsteröder height, which belongs to himself pulling in the form of an open to the south-southwest horseshoe to Günsterode Melsunger Bergland. It rises between the valley of Esse Bach with Schnellrode ( to Spangenberg; Schwalm -Eder -Kreis) in the south-southeast and Retterode ( to Hessian Lichtenau; Werra -Meißner -Kreis) in the northeast and that of Ohebachs with Günsterode ( to Melsungen; Schwalm -Eder district) in the west. The Pentersrückgipfel is about 250 m southwest of the county boundary in the city of Spangenberg. The main town of Melsungen is located 11 km south-west, those of Spangenberg 5.8 km south-southwest and those of hessian Lichtenau 4 km (each air line) north-northeast. On the eastern flank of the mountain lies the deserted village Haukerode. A southeasterly spur means stone head ( 406.6 m).

The highest peak of Günsteröder height, the sky Mountain, 1.3 km north-northeast is located and can be reached along the circle border on a barely 30 m deep notch.

Nature Spatial allocation

The Pentersrück heard in the physiographic feature unit group Osthessisches Bergland (No. 35) in the main unit Fulda- Werra- Bergland ( 357 ) for subunit Melsunger Bergland with Günsteröder height ( 357.6 ), with its landscape in the northeast to east to south in the subunit Witzenhausen Altmorschener Talung ( 357.5 ) in the natural environment Spangenberg Valley ( 357.50 ) drops.

Reserves

( FFH-Nr. 4823-301; 20.54 km ² ) on the south-western areas of Pentersrück, parts of the Fauna- Flora-Habitat area Ried forest in Melsungen are and lie on the entire survey such an eponymous bird sanctuary ( VSG-Nr. 4823-401; 69.75 km ²).

Observation tower

On the Pentersrück an observation tower was erected in 1894, from which one could look for example to the other side situated by the Hessian- light Auer pool Kaufunger forest and Hohe Meissner. The tower was demolished due to disrepair and not renewed.

Transport and Hiking

East past the Pentersrück runs along the Esse Bach's federal highway 487 ( hessian Lichtenau- Retterode - Schnellrode - Spangenberg ) and west of the state road 3147 ( hessian Lichtenau- Günsterode Cemetery Melsungen ). For example, on these streets starting you can see on forest and hiking trails of the mountain. About the Pentersrück lead the trails Brothers Grimm way and Riedforstweg.
