Per Fossum

Per Fossum ( born July 27, 1910 in Oslo, † December 24, 2004 in Asker ) was a Norwegian ski racer and nordic combined.

Biography

Fossum was a versatile athlete. As a teenager he began to ski jumping and Nordic combined. Mid-1930s, when the alpine ski racing in Norway was formed, he focused more on its disciplines. In addition, he competed in football competitions in athletics and orienteering.

Between 1935 and 1939 he took part in all the Alpine World Ski Championships. His best result was a fourth place at the World Cup 1937 in Chamonix. At the Olympic Winter Games in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, where for the first time alpine competitions were on the program, he was a member of the Norwegian team and finished second in the combined score rank 9, 1937, he was also at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Chamonix at the start and was sixth in the Nordic combined. To date, he is the only athlete who competed in both alpine as well as in the Nordic Championships. In the same year he became French champion in the 50 km cross-country skiing.

After ending his sports career he worked as a master mason, and led his own company in Oslo. From 1948 to 1950 he was a board member of the Norwegian Ski Association. His younger brother Arvid was also skier and sports official.
