Per Unckel

Carl Gustav Per Unckel ( born February 24, 1948 in Finspång; † 20 September 2011 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish politician of the Moderate Party ( Moderata samlingspartiet ).

Life

Unckel became involved at an early stage in the Moderate Party and their organizations, and was initially 1967-1968 Chairman of the Reich Association moderates students MSU ( Moderate skolungdom ). After he was 1971-1976 Chairman of the Moderate ungdomsförbundet (MUF ), the youth wing of his party, he was first elected in the elections of 19 September 1976 for the deputies of the Reichstag and was part of this until 1986. During this time, 1980 was also campaign manager for Moderates in the referendum on nuclear energy.

After retiring from the Reichstag 1986, he was party secretary of Moderata samlingspartiet before he was appointed in 1991 by then Prime Minister Carl Bildt, Minister for Education in the cabinet, and this remained until the end of Bildt's tenure in 1994. His tenure there was born 1992, the so-called " Friskolereformen ", an educational reform of the free schools. In October 1994, he was also for a few days acting defense minister.

In the Reichstag elections of September 18, 1994 Unckel was again elected deputy in the Reichstag, which he now belonged to 15 September 2002. During this time he was last seen between 1998 and 2002 Chairman of the Constitutional Committee. In 2003 he became the successor of Søren Christensen Secretary General of the Nordic Council, a member of the Nordic Council, and held this position until his replacement by Halldór Ásgrímsson in 2007.

2007 Unckel eventually became Governor ( Landshövding ) of Stockholm County and held that post until his death. A day before his death him a honorary doctorate from the Royal Institute of Technology Stockholm was awarded.
