Perle (grape)

The white grape pearl of Alzey in 1927 by Georg Scheu crossed Gewürztraminer in Alzey x Müller- Thurgau. In 1950, Dr. Hans Breider dealt with the post- breeding by selection. Since then, the new variety is actually called only pearl. 1968, the plant variety right was granted and in 1961 the company was registered in the list of varieties. The details of the breeder to the crossing parents could be confirmed in the meantime by DNA analysis. Although the skin of the berries is reddish colored to red, it is assigned to the white varieties in the German-speaking countries.

The variety is very frost resistant and suitable for problem areas, the wine is relatively low in acidity ( acid → (wine) ).

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is strongly hairy white wool. The young leaves are hairy only spinnwebig.
  • The small leaves are three-to five-lobed sinuate and distinctly. The petiole is U - shaped open to closed, but rarely overlapping. The blade is serrated blunt. The teeth are set moderately dilated in comparison to other varieties. The leaf surface (also called lamina ) is vesicular coarse.
  • The drum-shaped grape is small to medium in size, usually shouldered and dichtbeerig. The roundish to slightly elongated berries are medium in size and pink to reddish.

The grape ripens almost 10-15 days after Chasselas and is therefore applicable in international comparison as early ripening. By the late bud break, it has a slight late frost sensitivity. Pearl is a variety of the noble vine (Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphrodite flowers and is thus self- fruiting. When the wine-growing economic drawback is avoided, no return delivered to male plants need to grow.

The variety is susceptible to powdery mildew and gray mold, but hardly against downy mildew. It tends beyond the stem necrosis.

The vineyards in Germany are distributed as follows among the various regions:
