Perryville is a city of Boyle County in the U.S. state of Kentucky.

Geography

Perryville is located at 37 ° 39'0 " north latitude and 84 ° 57'1 " west longitude. The 15 kilometers from Danville lie to the east and Harrodsburg in the Northeast. At a distance of around 90 kilometers, Louisville is in a north-westerly direction.

History

The forerunner of today's Perryville was a small fort located on Chaplin River in the final phase of the American Revolution. Since the area was used for agriculture, more settlers came to the area. In honor of the naval officer Oliver Hazard Perry, who was known as a hero of the Battle of Lake Erie, the place " Perryville " was called.

On 8 October 1862, the fields west of the city were the scene of the Battle of Perryville, also known as the " Battle of the Chaplin River." The battle resulted in a victory despite the task of Kentucky by the Confederate forces. Perryville Battlefield State Park the battle is commemorated in the form of a re-enactment every year.

1961 Perryville, a National Historic Landmark and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
