Pete Yellin

Peter Michael Yellin ( born July 18, 1941 in New York City ) is an American jazz saxophonist, flautist - and - clarinetist.

Yellin, the son of an NBC studio pianist is, initially had private lessons with Augustine Duque and then studied at the Juilliard School of Music saxophone with Joseph Allard and flute with Harold Bennett.

He then worked with Lionel Hampton, Buddy Rich and Tito Puente and was from 1970 to 1973 Member of Joe Henderson's band at their album Pursuit of Blackness he participated. In addition, he had also been playing Mario Bauza, Maynard Ferguson, Lionel Hampton and the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Big Band and took in this time with Sam Jones and Charles Earland on. The following year he founded his own band, with whom he performed at the Newport Jazz Festival; in addition, he also played with Tito Puente.

As a sideman Yellin worked, inter alia, with Bob Mintzer, Eddie Palmieri, George Benson, Machito and Chick Corea. In 1984 he founded the jazz program at the Long Iceland University, which he led until late 1990 as coordinator of the jazz studies.
