Peter Cook (Australian politician)

Peter Francis Salmon Cook ( born November 8, 1943 in Melbourne, † December 3, 2005 in Perth ) was an Australian politician, member of the Senate and Minister.

Life

Cook was born in 1943 as the son of a worker in Melbourne. In 1975 he was elected Secretary General of the WA Trades and Labour Council in 1983 as a representative of Western Australia in the Australian Senate. Cook was a minister in the cabinets of Prime Minister Bob Hawke and Paul Keating. Between 1988 and 1996 Peter Cook was Environment Minister, Minister of Industry, Minister of Economy and Minister of Industry, Science and Technology. 2004 Cook Professor at Curtin University of Technology in Perth.

In June 2005, Cook resigned after a cancer diagnosis from his offices. He died at age 62, leaving behind his wife and four children.
