Peter Fourier

Pierre Fourier, German and Peter or Peter Fourier, Latinized Peter Forerius ( born November 30, 1565 in Mirecourt, Lorraine, † December 9, 1640 in Gray, Franche-Comté ) was a French priest and Augustinian canon and is a saint of the Catholic Church.

Pierre Fourier studied at the Jesuit University led by Pont-à- Mousson ancient languages ​​, literature and rhetoric. The age of twenty he entered the Augustinian Canons Chaumousey. At his ordination to the priesthood in 1589 in Trier followed more years of theological and legal studies. Conflicts with brothers led him in 1597 to take the job of a pastor in Mattaincourt, where he remained for four decades. In addition to his priestly work especially his charitable and social activities were also an important point through which he completely reshaped the neglected parish. Fourier set up a soup kitchen and took over the function of a local police and an arbitrator. In order to safeguard human life, he established a loan fund.

Together with the Blessed Alix Le Clerc in 1597, he founded the Congregation of the choir women of Our Lady, which established for the female youth camp schools. He also reformed the Lorraine Augustinian Canons and founded the Congregation of Our Saviour. The turmoil of the Thirty Years' War forced him to flee from Lorraine.

Fourier died on December 9, 1640 in Gray and was built in 1730 blissful, canonized in 1897. A statue of the saint is found in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome among those of the great founders of religious orders of the Catholic Church. Since 10 December 2010, a relic of the saint in the church Welschnonnen (Trier) has found a special place on the statue of Fourier.
