Peter Hyams
Peter Hyams ( born July 26, 1943 in New York City ) is an American cinematographer and film director.
Life
The son of Broadway agents Barry Hyams and his wife Ruth began at the age of 17, an arts and music studies at Syracuse University, and made a name for himself as a jazz drummer. He played among other things with Bill Evans and Maynard Ferguson in New York night clubs. After his studies he began in 1964 a work at NBC as a news anchor. This work was not him particularly, so he went to Vietnam and turned there a war documentation. It was followed by other television documentaries, for which he continued to work as chief newsreader.
Hyams 1970 sold his screenplay for Tanya Baskin - Just call to the film company Paramount Pictures. He then went to Los Angeles and produced the film about a girl from the province who wants to make his fortune in Chicago, with Herbert Ross as director and Candice Bergen in the lead role. This is followed by other productions for television, until he with trace of violence are in 1974 his debut as a film director. The film tells the story of a couple police officers whose idealism fades in the course of the story.
With Capricorn, he turned a much-acclaimed and commercially successful science fiction film about the first manned Mars landing, which is but a sham and to be hoodwinked the public. This was followed by the action film Hanover Street with Harrison Ford and the Space Western Outland - Planet of the Damned starring Sean Connery. In 1983 a judge sees red with Michael Douglas.

In many films of Peter Hyams called one of the supporting characters Spota. The name goes back to the maiden name of his wife, with whom Hyams has been happily married since 1964. Nevertheless, the character of Spota 's almost always a bad guy.
Their son, John Hyams has worked as a director and producer in the film business. In his film Universal Soldier: Regeneration Peter Hyams took over the function of the cameraman.
