The first professional game of his career Petr Franěk graduated in 1992 in his home country at the HC Chemopetrol Litvinov. The following year he was drawn by the Quebec Nordiques in the eighth round as the 205th NHL Entry Draft in 1993.

1996 Franěk was nominated for A World Championship, but came when winning the gold medal by the Czech National Selection not used. In the same year he moved to North America. It was not until he played in the unterklassigen Cohl, but still in the same season, he ran in the IHL and the Hershey Bears in the AHL, where he also played in 1997/98, on. After a further 1998/99 season at the Utah Grizzlies and Las Vegas Thunder in the IHL, he returned to Europe.

He first joined the DEL, and indeed to the Nuremberg Ice Tigers, but after only one season in which missed the Franks as reigning vice-champion the play-offs, he moved again to the Czech Republic.

There he first three years guarded the gate of the HC Becherovka Karlovy Vary, before moving to HC Slavia Prague in 2003. However, in his fourth year at the Czech capital club the sporty line was visibly unhappy with his performance, which is why they committed Adam Svoboda as the new number 1. Then his contract was dissolved at Slavia in December 2006 and he signed with the Iserlohn Roosters in the DEL, but for which he was awarded a new contract for the 2007 /08 season. He then moved back to the Czech Republic for HC Litvinov.
