Petra (Band)

Petra was a Christian rock band that was founded in the 1970s. Petra is Greek and means rock.

After 33 years as a band Petra announced on 24 May 2005 that it will dissolve. The final concert took place on the night of December 31, 2005 January 1, 2006 in Murphy in the U.S. state of North Carolina instead.

Despite the official resolution, however, the band then played a few isolated shows.

Petra released 24 albums and sold nearly 10 million records. She won four Grammy Awards, 10 Dove Awards and was accepted in 2000 into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame Gospel Music Association.

Classic Petra

In early 2010 gave five band members, who belonged to Petra mid-1980s, known to reunite under the name Classic Petra. It was announced an album that will include both new songs as well as newly recorded old Petra songs, a DVD and a world tour under the title Back To The Rock.

Bob Hartman is the only Classic - Petra - member who also Petra belonged at the time of resolution. Hartman is also the only member who was a member from inception to resolution of the band if he did not go on tour and between 1995 to 2003.
