Petra Priemer

Petra Priemer ( born February 6, 1961 in Leipzig, after marriage Petra Brinkmann ) is a former swimming athlete from East Germany, in 1976, won two Olympic silver medals.

Priemer was 1972 winner in the Spartakiade, but could not recommend for international youth championships in the coming years. The swimmer SC DHfK Leipzig gained in 1976 in the East German championship in the 100 meters freestyle in fourth place behind Kornelia Ender, Claudia Hempel and Barbara Krause. When Barbara Krause failed to illness, Priemer could compete in the 1976 Olympics in singles. Quite surprisingly, she won the silver medal behind Kornelia Ender and before the Dutch Enith Brigitha. With the 4 x 100 meter freestyle relay in the occupation of Education, Priemer, Andrea Pollack and Hempel she won her second silver medal behind the U.S. season. For these achievements, she was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze. After the Olympics, Petra Priemer won at the Junior European Championship title in the 100 meters freestyle.

In the GDR Championship 1977 Priemer won as last year silver on the then non-Olympic 200 - meter medley track. At the European Championships she won the 100 meters in third place behind Barbara Krause and Enith Brigitha. The freestyle relay in the cast Birgit driver, Birgit Wächtler, Petra Priemer and Barbara Krause won the European title. The following year she won at the World Swimming Championships in 1978 together with Heike Witt, Caren Metschuck and Barbara Krause the silver medal behind the U.S. season.

Petra Priemer studied German and later was employed as a qualified librarian at the Leipzig city and county library.
