Petra Uhlig

Petra Uhlig ( born July 22, 1954 in Penig as Petra Kahnt ) is a former German handball player who won two Olympic medals and three times world champion was.

Petra Kahnt moved early to Leipzig, where he played for SC Leipzig. Three times she won the Spartakiade, coach Peter Kretzschmar she took over directly into the first team of the SC Leipzig. Only 17 years old she was playing in the national team of East Germany and in 1971 he was involved in winning the world title. After the ninth place at the World Championships in 1973, she won her second world title in 1975.

After their marriage, Petra Uhlig played at the Olympic debut of women's handball at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal in all five games with, the team won three games, played with 7:7 an extremely torarmes draw against the Hungarians and defeated the Soviet team. Behind the Soviet Union won the players from the GDR, the silver medal as they face the Hungarians had the better goal difference. After the World Championship title in 1978 Petra Uhlig was there also at the second Olympic handball tournament in Moscow in 1980 in all games. Like four years ago, the team won three games, once played draw against Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union was defeated. Since the Yugoslavs had the better goal difference, the GDR team won the bronze medal this time. The 1982 World Cup was Petra Uhlig's last major tournament, the team of East Germany took fourth place.

Overall Petra Uhlig played in 282 international matches for the GDR, where the circle runner scored 487 hits. So it was for many years German record national. Later, she was overtaken by Michaela Erler and Grit Jurack.

Petra Uhlig won seven East German championship with the SC Leipzig. In 1974 she won the European Cup of Champions. At the end of their sporting career, she was in 1984 awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in gold.

Her daughter Alexandra also played handball.
