Petre Roman

Petre Roman ( born July 22, 1946 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian politician. It was after the fall of Nicolae Ceauşescu, the first democratic Prime Minister of Romania under President Ion Iliescu.

Roman, son of communist politician and fighter Spain Ernő Neuländer had held the office of Prermierministers of 26 December 1989 to 26 September 1991. He kicked at the " Mine triads " - the miners' riots in the Romanian capital Bucharest - from his office.

First, a political ally of President Ion Iliescu and connected with him in the National Salvation Front ( FSN), it came between the two politicians, a rift began as a novel in March 1992, to reshape the National Salvation Front in the sense of a modern social democratic oriented party. Iliescu and his followers left out the National Salvation Front and founded the Democratic National Salvation Front ( FDSN ) which showed the later the Social Democratic Party (PSD ). The FSN was renamed the Democratic Party ( PD) in March 1993.

1996 novel candidate in the presidential elections, reached 20.45% for third place and called on his followers to support the Christian Emil Constantinescu in the runoff.

22 December 1999 to 28 December 2000, he was Romanian foreign minister. For a long time he was chairman of PD. In the presidential elections of 2000 novel won only 3 % of the votes; the following year he was replaced later President Traian Basescu in 2001 in his position as party pre Titze from Santander.

Traian Băsescu formed the PD to a more conservative party and in 2004 ended an alliance with the right-wing liberal PNL one to replace the Social Democratic government. Roman subsequently went out from the PD, but retained his position as Senator. He then founded the social democratic Democratic -oriented force (FD ) as a new party, however, was able to achieve any electoral success. In the parliamentary elections in 2008, he took up for the National Liberal Party, but won no mandate.

Petre Roman is the son of a Romanian veterans of the Spanish Civil War and a Spaniard. He has two children from his first marriage and a son from his second marriage. He is regarded as an athlete and speaks several languages.
