Phatthalung

Province

Phatthalung ( Thai: พัทลุง ) is a city ( เทศบาล เมือง พัทลุง ) in the Thai province of Phrae. It is the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Phatthalung Phatthalung Province and in the southern region of Thailand.

The town has 35,568 inhabitants Phatthalung. (2012 )

Geography

Phatthalung is located in the southern foothills of the Tenasserim mountain range on the Malay Peninsula. East of the town is the about 1,250 km ² large freshwater sea Thale Luang, which occurs at Songkhla in the Gulf of Thailand. The environment shows paddy fields, and on the near plane to rise two limestone rocks, which are crossed by cave systems, Ok Thalu and Hua Taek.

The distance to the border to Malaysia in the south is about 100 kilometers.

History

The history of the area around Phatthalung can be traced to the Srivijaya time - trace - long before Sukhothai. Corresponding findings in the rock temples of the nearby neighborhood can still be admired today.

Legend has it that the two characteristic limestone of the city, Ok Thalu ( pierced chest) and Hua Taek ( broken head) are the fossils of two jealous women who started fighting for her lover.

Attractions

  • Wat Suwan Khuha - Buddhist temple ( Wat ) north of the city at the foot of a steep limestone spur rich with decorations and a cave with interesting golden Buddha figures. The rocks you can climb and has a magnificent view of the city, the mountains and on Thalee Luang.
  • Wat Wang - temple from the early Rattanakosin period with an elegant Chedi and beautiful frescoes.
